So, As some of you may know world of warcraft is like a 2nd life to me.I spend hours and hours every day playing it.I was recently just curious how long blizzard could milk wow and keep it going. So i did some google searches and heres what i came to find.
It has been said that by blizzard not to long ago that they wanted to make the player cap 100 and give after cata 5 levels extra every xpack. So with the last xpacks being about 2 years apart, I see from this perspective it could last till the year 2017 but you got to add some factors into this.
Will World of warcraft still be bringing home the bacon aka money years from now ?
I think so, Wow grows over time and has never went down in population as far as i know. For every 1 player who quits 5 new ones join.
The next thing to think about is after the 100 cap there going to give players time to play, reach as much content and gear,So forth. So it could last till the year say 2018 or 2019.
It has also been confirmed that they are coming out with a Warcraft 4 but not determined when.Warcraft 4 could be after the last xpack in 2017 or whenever so that they can create a lore and keep going after the 100 level cap.
Truthfully i have been playing since 2006 and i'm surprised wow has made it this far.It is a great game and i love it but i never would of saw the level cap going past 80.As i see it wow could last intill level cap 100 for sure no matter what but after that if they make anymore will depend if they are bring in enought money i think. On top of that there has been word and blizzard announced they are working on a new mmorpg,All they have said thou is that it is not going to be noting like world of warcraft.
The question to that is will this new mmorpg kill world of warcaft and take its players.
So what are your thoughts on some of this stuff i said.
Lets discuss|||I would guess that the subscription numbers will peak in the next 3-4 years. However, I see the game continuing on for a long time after that, even after Blizzard stops creating new content for it. Don't they still have some Diablo 1 servers up?|||It will last for a very long time. Blizz will proberly keep developing it maybe 1 or 2 years after there new MMO comes out but will keep servers up as long as people keep on playing it.|||I hope it continues, after all.. we dont want the world to end|||Quote:

I think that it will last maybe 5 years, maybe 10, maybe 20, possibly to the end of the world, but I think that they will eventually make WoW 2 because:
When you put all of this CDs on the desk and you say "OMG I cant wait for 5 or more hours for WoW expansions and patches.
But maybe they will release original WoW CD with all expansions, and patches.
Blu-ray discs today can hold up to 20BGs of information.Enough to hold WoW, TBC, WotLK, Cata, and another expansion with all patches.|||Despite being relatively new to WoW, I just have to say that I'd be surprised if it suddenly died off -- either by a new MMORPG, or some weird Blizzard-related thing. I say this, 'cuz wherever I've been there've been many, many, many WoW players and none of them ever looked like they were going to put it down -- even if a new game came out that could rival it. I think it mostly stems from the fact that a lot of them put a lot of money into WoW, and would hate to see their investment of time and money go down the drain.
Although, I mainly got an account after people kept raving about it and I was like "Okay, so what is this" and quickly got hooked into it. So, even though the game is old, it's still attracting new players, still has a solid player-base and a solid fan-base, and I don't see that ending.
As for when content ends... I figure that'd likely be whenever Blizzard no longer makes money, or enough money, to justify keeping it going.|||I'm sure it will last for years to come. Everquest has much smaller numbers and just released its 17th expansion.|||hard to say, I do think WoW has hit it's plateau in terms of player growth though. With how big it has become, most people have at least heard of it by now, if not given it a play. Not to say there isn't anyone new joining, but I see them being offset by those that quit.
Course, I could be wrong. I haven't put to much thought into their growth in developing markets, such as South America and East Asia. Maybe it'll just keep snowballing further and further.|||Like all things, even WoW will "end" - but that might just take some time....|||It will take about 10 years but even the dedicated WOW players will still play it then
