Expansion after Cataclysm

I get the feeling that Cataclysm is only the fist half of a full expansion. The hints are that the level cap is increased to 85 -- not 90. There are no new talents. And from what I've read there are no new zones (however, Blizzard does hints that Deepholm will be in the next expansion and that it will be the biggest new area ever made).

So, when I think about it, it seems more true. How could they integrate the maelstrom with the elemental planes (Deathwing and Azshara at the same time)? It seems very unlikely that Blizzard would want to cram everything into one expansion pack. However, it does say that Azshara will be a player in Deathwing's actions, but that doesn't mean she will be the focal point of the game. It doesn't even mean players will even encounter her at all. The expansion trailer itself focuses only on Deathwing and what he has done. Moreover, the only zones referred to have to do with current Azeroth and the dragon's lair. There is nothing referred to about the Maelstrom. It's very likely that the end raid of this expansion will be dealing with Old God that was controlling Deathwing. And then what? We will all have to wait for the next expansion.

The previous expansion dealt with Deathwing and defeating him. Azshara could have been an ally, but she was most likely on the sidelines. In fact, if he fails, she probably has a back up plan -- a naga invasion. After Deathwing's inevitable demise, Azshara will launch a massive attack upon the Alliance and Horde. It is possible that the world landscape will be changed by her actions and -- massive flooding, cities and towns overrun, etc. Of course, this will all occur in another expansion.

This new expansion the content that many people, including myself, generally look forward to -- new talents, new spells, and one new class. And the fun part of the game is guessing which new class they will add -- my guess, is the Sea Witch (Priest/Priestess of the Tides). It will be available to all races, like the Death Knight, and will utterly change the dynamics of the game. My guess is that the Sea Witch will be a Battle Mage type class. The Warcraft 3 version of the Sea Witch had her utilizing a bow as well as assorted spells. This makes for a unique and fun playable class. If Blizzard kept her about the same, the Sea Witch in WoW will be able to use a bow and will be the only other class in the game that has talents to focus around this. But as a mage, she will also specialize in spells. Many of her skills will be centered around the ability to defend herself from the powerful attacks of other classes. For example, she will have to make use of skills such as mana shield and other boons to effectively remain in physical combat. Yet on the other hand, she will have moderately powerful spells to attack enemies. Her talent tree would probably be something like this -- Arcane, Storm, and Sea. Arcane and Sea magic would focus on protection as well effective bow attacks. Each would have unique their own unique bonuses. Storm magic would enable the Sea Witch to be closer to a mage. She would be weaker than a Sea or Arcane Witch, however, her spells would be more devastating.

I know it's a little rough right now, but I'm sure the Talent trees can work if they are refined. Either way, I really do believe the Sea Witch is the next perfect class because of the up and coming conflict with the naga, and because she would be closer to a battle mage -- something WoW has not done before. And also, she would utilize the bow as her primary physical weapon and have unique abilities to accompany her attacks. Blizzard has yet to add another class that dabbles in ranged physical attacks.

Feel free to comment on any of my suggestions.|||I believe there's 7 (?) new zones in Cataclysm. Not only that of course, but pretty much every single zone currently in Vanilla Azeroth will be changed and updated.

Blizz have already stated many a time that they want to push out an expansion every 12 - 15 months, so I for one have little doubt that we'll see smaller expansions - expansions designed to be finished within a year or so of release.|||The idea of half an expansion is pretty good actually, maybe they've decided to make these updates in smaller chunks so we get major new content quicker? Cataclysm is certainly different to the expansions so far, that's for sure. And I think they've lined up the Maelstrom as the next one pretty well, unless it will be an extra part of Cataclysm, but it's too big for that IMO.|||There are 7 new zones, according to the http://wow-cataclysm.wikidot.com they are Twilight Highlands - Mount Hyjal - Deepholm - Uldum - Gilneas - Lost Isles - Vash'jir.

We get all our information from Blizzcon panels, so as it stands, it is correct.|||According to that leaked memo that began floating around the internet years ago, the next expansion after Cataclysm will be the Emerald Dream. Now, the memo's list of zones for each expansion has been pretty darn accurate (90% accurate for Burning Crusade, 100% accurate for Wrath of the Lich King, and its looking about 75% or so accurate for Cataclysm), but a lot can change.

I certainly expect Blizzard's ideas to verge away from the memo eventually, but it has been fairly reliable so far. If I was a betting man I would certainly put a lot of money on the next expansion taking place in the Emerald Dream. The Emerald Dream will definitely play an important role in Cataclysm, since we know Malfurion is back, and he has been stuck in the Emerald Dream for years now.

The Maelstrom is already part of Cataclysm; the Lost City of Vash'jir is located directly underneath the Maelstrom. I fully expect that one full content patch in Cataclysm will be dedicated to the Maelstrom and allow us to battle Aszhara (since Deathwing is the actual end boss in Cata).|||Quote:

Sorry about the mistake with zones. I knew they would be expanding of the current continents, but I wasn't entirely sure if they would be creating the elemental planes.

It does seem likely as well that Blizzard would make a few patches dedicated to the Maelstrom. Who knows? Maybe they might even add zones and talent trees into those patches -- ultimately making this expansion one of the most jam-packed add-ons in WoW. However, like said before, I would really love to see a new unique hero class. But that is just me.|||Quote:

There are no new talents. Instead they are going to remove the passive talents, put them into skillups you get from just investing into trees, leaving only the fun talents. Not sure how that will work because they'll essentially remove 1/2 the talents while not adding any, so we'll see if that philosophy changes.|||I know as a prot warrior that I have way too many required talents and not nearly enough talent points, so I'm definitely looking forward to getting more points but less talents.|||Well, besides the Emerald Dream there is few known content to be used as material for an expansion pack. They'd have to start using the lesser known like

- Argus, homeworld of the Eredar

- wherever the nath'rezim come from

- Perhaps we'll one day be able to go into The Twisting Nether?

- Sargeras of course

But yeah, for now The Emerald Dream speaks to the imagination the most.|||The memo has Argus, the nath'rezim, and Sargeras as the final boss, as part of the final 90-100 expansion, after the Emerald Dream expansion. Of course this is already pretty inaccurate, since they are lowering the level cap (most likely to squeeze out another few expansions before this final showdown with the Eredar and Sargaras).
