Free to play WoW - a Possibility at some point

Article here: http://www.incgamers.com/News/23712/...ee-to-play-wow|||If Blizzard can maintain a subscriber base in the millions without getting rid of the monthly fee, why would they?

...Ren|||Blizzard are always trying to get even more subscribers than they have already. If they do make WoW free, I see alot of people moving from GW to WoW; A lot of people have told me they only play GW because of WoW's subscription.

In the end it all comes down to greed.|||Basically, the way things are right now, Blizzard has no reason to make Wow free to play. Why would they? It makes zero sense to give away what millions of people are willing to keep paying for....|||As long as millions of people keep paying for the game on a monthly basis, this just won't happen. WoW will only go the 'free way' if subscriptions decline by a huge amount (say from 9 million to 1 million) and I don't see that happening any time soon.|||I don't see that happening before their second MMORPG is released.

Afterwards, however, all bets are off.|||as far as i'm concerned, the instant a game goes free, it inherently turns to crap, since the developers have less interest in keeping the actual content good and start on things like selling weapons and armor for real world money, not cool|||That would be cool but I hope they don't cut down on anything for this...|||I don't think it'll be free to play until the number of subs go down to under 500k, and that'll be years away. No other MMO that had more than 500k subs went F2P as far as I know, it's always been struggling games.|||Well, basically the article/interview said: "If it makes business sense wow could go free to play". Not very news worthy IMO, but the interesting discussion is when and how it would makes business sense for them to do it.
