Funerals in WoW

Hi All,

I am a student looking at real life death mourned in virtual worlds. I was wondering if anyone had any articles or information pertaining to funerals in WoW.

I also was wondering how people feel about funerals in warcraft, please explain your reasoning as well. This is for a term paper I am currently writing.

Thanks!|||Hey.... there's a nifty thread called "Survey & Research Thread" that is perfect for this kind of request, for your convenience, it is stickied at the top of this very forum.|||Eh, the forum is pretty dead these days, and this is a fairly unusual topic, I'll give you a few bits to search for.

If you simply google "wow funeral" you can find articles and youtube videos on the most infamous one, which was held on the PvP server Illidan.

Thats the only actual funeral I know of, however Blizzard employees tend to have memorials for players and friends/family of staff members, below is a list, you may want to look it up on wowwiki, etc:

Shrine of the Fallen Warrior: Michael Koiter

Crusader Bridenbrad: Bradford Bridenbecker

"In Loving Memory": Anthony Ray Stark

Decorated headstone: Jesse Morales

Caylee Dak: Dak Krause

There are probably more than that, but those are the ones I'm aware of.

Personally, I feel funerals/memorials in WoW are fairly similar to those in the "real world". Just as a group of friends might enjoy bowling or fishing, its considered tradition to do something in rememberance of them, relating to what they enjoyed in life. For instance I do origami, and when a fellow origami artist passes away, I fold a phoenix for them in rememberance of them.
