Hey all!
In all my years of WoW, I can say I've seen my fair share of trolling. So when I ran across this definition of a troll in a scholarly article, it struck me as weird... Idk, something just seems off. What do you all think, or do you think it's pretty good?
Troll /trōl/ (World of Warcraft)
Noun: A person who incites, aggravates and aids unproductive debates or arguments between players, choosing to address a controversial subject or an inflammatory idea in order to spark fruitless chat. Trolls are known for drawing their victims into a debate in order to find humor, and they commonly believe that they have a superior perception or understanding of the topics they choose to debate. Being a troll is generally a conscious decision, and most non-trolls perceive it as a negative influence on the game|||I'd say a troll is a verbal bomb thrower. No more, no less. I think the major motive is immaturity. The definition you found is overly complex.|||To me, the definition looks ok, but I wouldn't restrict it to WoW. Applies to virtually any situation where people can hide behind a keyboard.|||Pretty accurate in my opinion.|||Trolling as far as i am concerned is when a player specifically go's out of their way to annoy another person in any verbal or in game, action based way...
But yeah, i also agree with the previous statements, just throwing in my 2 cents|||yeah definitely an accurate description lol
