WoW lost subs

There's been a lot of these threads started up on the official forums with people speculating why there are less subscribers now than there were in Wrath. I'm not here to make a big deal about it but I was unfortunate enough to make a post in one of these threads. The thread itself was "up-voted" and very well articulated. Not a thread that I would consider to be trolling.

Here was my contribution to the thread;

Me: well 10 and 25 shared raid lockouts killed pugs

Other person: That didn't kill pugs.... That was implemented in 4.0, a good 2 months prior to Cata launch. People were still pugging ICC after that change.

Me: ya when no guilds were raiding and there was a 30% buff

The result? BANNED (I'm not even kidding)

The reason? Spamming / Trolling (No I'm really not kidding)

Being able to communicate on the forums was one of the positive things that kept me continuing my subscription fee. Just thought people should know what's going on. And if you're still on the official forums don't say anything that you think is wrong with the game. lol|||If you feel like discussing about a decrease in subscriptions, be my guest. If this is just a "I have been banned and it's not fair" thread, it will be locked quickly...

First of all, are there actual figures indicating the amount of subscriptions have decreased?|||Quote:

It's been all over the official forums for the last couple of days and people have been making threads speculating why numbers have decreased. In my own opinion I think a decision was made and handed down to squash and ban any threads on the topic. This caught me completely off guard.|||From everyone that I know and have talked to - and not just people in my guild, the two main reasons are burnout and the economy.

Now I'm not saying those are the only two, but in 4+ years of playing with friends in hard core and casual - we have always been right on with the gains/losses/reasons why things are happening - that microcosm thing.

Burnout - unless you were in a hardcore guild at the time - it took a while to down Arthas and/or Yogg - they were hard fights. Now even Casual Guild would be 11/12 ICC with even hard modes done, they still didn't have an LK kill. After months burnout occurred.

Now that coincided with the economy going to bunk and over half the leadership in my guild had to actually quit the game because of having to either work too much to make ends meat, or they just couldn't afford the money and time to play anymore (and still have a family).

Of all of them only one "left" for Rift (although that person also left for LotR, Conan, WHOnline....and still came back to WoW). I played all those too, but I didn't "leave" and come back, but I only still have LotR installed because it's free. I can see SWG pulling people away - because that's one I'm very interested in, but unless it's a total knockout, I will still play both.|||Why do you think pugs are practically nonexistent in Cataclysm?

You mean SWTOR?|||I've been playing wow since it was released. I have 10 level 80+ alliance characters on the same server all in the same guild. The guild experience has been great for me. I've met a few guildies IRL and made some great life long friends. I'm somewhat of a hard core player. I like levelling and raiding but I view wow as a fun thing and found that getting the really great gear was too much like a job.

After BC raiding felt really dumbed down and too easy. Powering through dungeons just wasn't rewarding and it felt more like button mashing. I was glad that blizz was going to make it more like vanilla wow.

However, raiding in cata was too hard and it brought out the monster in a lot of people. That's what killed it for me, dealing with jerks. If I'm in a group doing a dungeon and someone's having a hard time and the group is cool about it I was ok with it but when people got nasty I got tired of it real fast and quit.

I'll be honest and say that IRL my being short and with and not up with jerks and shelfish people well is an issue but when I'm trying to relax and unwind and forget about work and all the BS IRL the last thing I want to do is get stressed and frustrated.|||This is how I see it. People will leave the game for a variety of personal reasons. The fact of the matter is WoW has declined in sub numbers with Cata even after all the new people who are now playing.

There are less healers and tanks now. Pugs are virtually nonexistent which is a big step in the wrong direction for the game. Archeology is a horrible profession with no real benefit to your character. 4.1 was a terrible content patch severely lacking in depth. I think that's why Blizzard starting pushing 4.2 literally the same day 4.1 was released.

So what's the easiest way to silence unhappy subscribers? Just ban their voices.|||Quote:

I was banned (and i posted why here) and cant help but think the Forum Nazi's are partly to blame for Sub losses. These guys rule the forums with their unaccountable iron fist and if you want to be a part of "their" forum, never say a bad word about....well anything WoW related. It totally sucks, but as I said.....its "their" forum. They do whatever they want. Respect their authori-tay or get the ban hammer.|||Being member of a forum is a privilege. It's like inviting someone to your house. He is welcome, as long as he acts by the house rules you set up yourself. And apart from that, you can show him the door at any given moment without having to explain yourself.

In that aspect, forum nazi's don't exist. If there are indeed people quitting the game because they can't say what they want and how they want on an internet forum that is not theirs, yeah well, their loss.|||Thats like saying nazi germany wasnt a bad place at all. they had the right to do whatever they wanted and make whatever rules they wanted. The Jews just werent following the rules. Not a pretty analogy, but thats how I feel about the Mods who run the WoW forums.

As long as people arent allowed to express their feelings and thoughts in open discussion and innocent posts are getting people banned like mine and the OPs, there will always be this element on the non-official forums, whether it be here or MMOchamp, or where ever they go to post. They want people to know they got screwed for what is really no reason at all other then to say something non-flattering about the game.Or at the very least to warn others. Are there people getting banned for really bad stuff? yes. There is. But I bet a million dollars they arent coming here (or wherever) and saying "I was a complete ass to so and so and got banned!" And I apologize for possibly raising any hackles. That wasnt my (and I assume the OPs) plan. At all.
