My patch file problem!!

I downloaded a patch file from Wowiki.......which is from 3.3.x to 4.0.1.12911 stage 1.http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors#Installation_tips

i know i posted in the wrong section but please....i want answer!|||Patch files should be .exe files. That is clearly the wrong file you downloaded.

If I am not mistaken, the patches download nowadays in a more streaming way, meaning that the core features are being installed first so that you can play more quickly. Been a while since I patched up the game, and it's possible that is just from patch 4.0 onward, I have no idea. But you can try just launching the client and see what that gives.

If it doesn't work, you need to choose another mirror from the list to download your patch.

Thanks....|||if you're going from 3.x to current (4.1), expect it to take time - you have something like 8 GB of data to download.

If I need patches, I go to wowwiki and check the patch mirrors there. Trial and error will find you a fast one and you'll just have to be patient.|||hey what can i do with the file that i had downloaded?|||depends on the contents of the file (I honestly can't remember exactly what I did last time - sorry).

The way it works atm, is that stuff dowloads in the background and come patch day, it's usually quite quick, so I haven't had to do it manually for a while now.

The usual cause for manual patching was for those times when the 'proper' way was taking just too long. If you check around your WoW installation, you can usually see what file it's downloading (could well be in a directory called patches or updates). I check the contents of the manually downloaded patch and see what matches.

Don't be surprised if the updater still seems to download your file - it's only doing a checksum test for integrity. Once it's happy, the patching begins.
